The Uffici galleries in Florence house some of the most beautiful paintings I know – and that I love. The painting which gave me the idea for this series, and this shirt dress, ironically I do not know the painter…but its a beautiful image of golden embroidery on a black garment of some sort – I only took a picture of the detail and am frustrated ….. must go back to Florence asap and sort this out as I respect provenance very highly. This series of clothes and scarves, ‘Uffici’, is my attempt to interpret the embroidery using simple drawing and loose mark making in an attempt to recreate the delicacy, in a contemporary way. The transparent silk georgette in this long shirt/dress carries the colour like stained glass – and the links and limes glow against the blackish background. It is one size and unstructured fitting a UK 10/14 and USA 8/12.
